Improving Energy Efficiency of New Homes

In huge news for the industry, on Friday last week Building Ministers agreed to raise the minimum energy efficiency standards for new homes.  This is the largest change to minimum standards in a decade and will deliver cost of living savings to households across Australia.  The increase in stringency builds on efforts by many over many years.

The idea of this increase was initially supported by Energy Ministers in the Trajectory for Low Energy Buildings in 2019.  Since then, the Australian Building Codes Board, the NatHERS Administrator, CSIRO, and many consultants, stakeholders and industry groups have collaborated to develop, analyse, consult and brief on the provisions.  Congratulations to everyone involved!
